If there are three staples that every style maven should have in their closet this season, it is the pointy toe black boot, a statement coat and a much smaller version of that perfect piece of jewelry that pairs seamlessly with your winter wardrobe....

The first essential, a statement coat, doesn't have to be brightly colored to be considered a showstopping piece (although I must admit that I rock my blue, Celine-inspired coat almost daily). In fact, I am quite aware that many of you have an allergic reaction to the thought of wearing bright colors during these colder months, so I suggest updating with tweed or leather detailing. Tweed and leather are two fall mainstays, so a piece of outerwear such as this will provide some real staying power in your wardrobe for many seasons to come.

My next essential is a black, pointy toe boot. Gone are those days in which I clunked around in a pair of platforms and prayed to the almighty shoe gods that my toes would stay intact after an extended period of severe pain. It seems that designers have heard our cries and provided us with an assortment of boots that bring us back down to Earth a bit and give our feet a much-needed rest. However, although my need for a sleeker sole stems from an appreciation for comfort, it also accommodates my constant love affair with the clean lines that this silhouette offers.

Lastly, I must take a moment to persuade all you to change things up a bit if you have that "bigger is better mentality" when it comes to jewelry. Yes, I will still have those moments when only a large statement piece will do, but there is beauty in restraint and a scaled-down piece of jewelry will compliment most of your wardrobe instead of overwhelming it. Pendants, chains and small embellishments can make just as much of an impact as your heavier pieces. Remember my style mavens, sometimes less is in fact more.
