Although I am not exactly a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, it should be quite obvious that I do enjoy acquiring  the basic staples that help build any functional wardrobe. However, I take great pleasure in finding these pieces with a touch of the unexpected. Whether it is a beautifully placed slit on a pencil skirt, a knit with a sense of humor (I am quite aware that knits can't actually have a sense of humor, considering they are not living things, but roll with me on this one), or a little black dress with peek-a-boo cut outs, I am always trying to revel in the art of the subtle surprise.

This week I not only wanted to introduce you to my new Rebecca Minkoff booties, which served as the perfect footwear for this particular ensemble, but I also wanted to pay homage to the power of the little black dress. With the holiday festivities right around the corner many of you will be looking for your go to item, and the LBD will serve you well. Just remember to add your own hint of surprise to this classic piece when styling. A bold necklace or shoe, a pop of embellishment or shine, and a dress in an unexpected cut or shape can all help you on your quest to being a total head turner this holiday season.
