There have been many Resort 2013 collections that have caught our attention and delighted us in some way over the last two weeks. However, the Preen collection was so inspiring and captured everything we love so much right now with pops of floral and athletic inspired pieces that it has became our favorite collection in a bevy of designers all vying for the top spot this coming season...
Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi created a collection that mixes masculine and feminine, hard and soft, and colorful and neutral (is that even possible?) with their latest Resort collection for Preen. The duo have given the fashion community something to nod to with its mix of well structured pieces, and made floral something modern and androgynous for those of us who like to mix in a few masculine elements into our looks. The two partnered the floral graphic prints with stripes that almost look painted on for a more casual affect.
“There are hydrangeas, poppies, gerberas, chrysanthemums, which we love,” Thornton told Vogue. “But we wanted to do something nontraditional with them. So we started looking at Jeff Koons’s paintings with all those super-bright pop colors and brushstrokes dragged across them. And Nick Knight’s photos of flowers.”
We also couldn't get enough of the athletic vibe that ran through the entire collection, because it is so relevant right now. The pairing of the sequin top with the striped trousers is the perfect answer for those who find the athletic trend to be too difficult to wear in a closet full of over the top pieces. If anything, the designers seemed to manage the impossible, which is provide a collection that has a little bit of something for everyone, yet manages to stay cohesive in its attempt to do so.
